Serge PICAUD (Directeur de recherche INSERM) dirige un département à l’Institut de la Vision à Paris. Il a publié plus de 100 articles scientifiques. Après la caractérisation de la physiologie des photorécepteurs, il a étudié les mécanismes de leur dégénérescence pour développer des stratégies thérapeutiques. Il examine également comment la lumière bleue affecte la survie des cellules de la rétine à l’aide d’un dispositif innovant d’exposition à la lumière. Parallèlement, il développe des prothèses rétiniennes et des opsines microbiennes pour restaurer la vision chez les patients devenus aveugles. La traduction clinique de ces approches thérapeutiques a contribué à la création des sociétés, Pixium Vision et Gensight Biologics.

Serge  PICAUD (INSERM Research Director) is Department chair at the Vision Institute, Paris, France. He has published more than 100 scientific papers on retinal function in normal and pathological conditions. After characterizing the physiology of photoreceptors, he has investigated the mechanisms of their degeneration in cell and animal models to develop therapeutic strategies. Recently, he has examined how blue light affects retinal cell survival using an innovative light exposure device. In parallel, he is developing retinal prostheses and microbial opsins to restore vision in blind patients. Clinical translation of these therapeutic approaches has contributed to the spinoff companies, Pixium Vision and Gensight Biologics.
